A Word About Longview School
“Excellence is a Shared Responsibility”
Longview School is a public separate school, serving students in grades 6-12 who have experienced behavioral difficulty at a regular school setting. Students are referred through their base schools and placed by IEP team decision. Longview offers small class sizes and a structured behavioral management program.
The students at Longview follow the standard course of study or the occupational course of study which is more vocationally oriented. Longview offers a small student-to-staff ratio, enabling our well trained and dedicated staff to form meaningful relationships with our students. In addition, we offer multiple tiers of intervention including tutorials built into the school day, a positive behavioral support teacher, and weekly student reviews.
Longview employs a full time counselor/dean, a psychologist, a social worker, a crisis team and a team of transition specialists to assist students in transitioning back to their base schools. We also have partnerships with various community service agencies, including juvenile court counselors, Haven House, the Raleigh Police Dept. and others. At Longview, absence is the only handicap to learning.
Longview's mission is to provide individualized education that addresses each student's academic, behavioral, emotional, and social needs; to develop positive character in students that enables them to contribute to their communities in meaningful and constructive ways.
VisionOur vision is to become the model for other schools by providing an educational experience in a supportive culture that is genuine and transformational, so that our students leave as better educated people.
