There are 6 PLT groups at Longview. Every other Wednesday, these groups get together to discuss the teaching standards on the new teacher evaluation instrument as well as assessments, integrating reading into their classrooms, using critical thinking skills in the classroom and differentiated instruction to address different needs for different students. On the opposite Wednesdays, the high school team, middle school team, student support team and crisis team all meet to discuss specific students, work on behavioral interventions and discuss academic progress.
The time that teachers spend in these meetings is designed to improve instructional
practices and ultimately, help teachers to be more effective in the classroom.
Six members of the Longview staff went through training last year on conducting
classroom "walk throughs." These six people visit classrooms on
a regular basis for 4-7 minutes. They record data about how students are being
taught. This includes information like how often worksheets are being used,
what type of technology is being used, the types of thinking skills that are
being assessed, etc. PLT's receive this data and have the opportunity to determine
what needs to be addressed and talk through ways to address these needs.
If you have concerns or have questions about how our PLT time is being used,
please do not hesitate to contact Pamela Jerro at 856-7691.
